Yesterday, I walked into the waiting area and was greeted by a couple waiting for side-by-side Brazilians. The woman noticed I was walking funny and asked me if I had a Brazilian that didn't go well. I informed her that one of my staff members had recently given me a Brazilian and it went very well. Then she noticed the boot on my leg, realized why I was walking that way and burst out laughing.
M.E. is the author of The Happy Hoo-Ha Trilogy, which can be found on Amazon as well as Barnes & Noble online. She also wrote a sexy nonfiction series called A Promise of Passion. M.E. has been blogging for years about the trials and tribulations of being a busy Brazilian Wax Technician because her job is that funny!

When I wax between the cheeks, I often ask the client to "lift it like you mean it." If the client assists me, it is much easier to be thorough. When I recently told a woman, who was apprehensive about having that area wax, to lift it like you mean it, she yelled "I don't mean it!"

I walked into the waiting room to find my next client on the phone. She realized she was next so she proceeded to end the call. She said, "I've gotta go, I'm going under the knife." C'mon, waxing isn't that bad!

Since Mark and M.E. is known as the Home of the 10 Minute Brazilian, most people assume that you have to take your pants off in order to get serviced at our salon. On the contrary, we offer a variety of services that don't require disrobing. For example, this week we did highlights, haircuts, facials, mani's, pedi's, eyelash extensions and microblading. Check out our website for a list of everything we offer! www.marknme.com

For those of you who didn't know, the M.E. in Mark and M.E. refers to me Mary Elizabeth. It is a very Catholic name, which is appropriate since countless women share their confessions with me. Often, they are of a forgiving nature. For example, yesterday a woman came in and profusely apologized for not seeing me since Halloween. It sounded like what you'd say when you entered a confessional. Then she proceeded to point to her bikini area and told me that she brought me a wolf. Yep, it was howling!

I have been waxing for over twenty years and am very confident that I can wax any person that enters my wax room. That does not mean that I don't hold my breath in nervous anticipation when certain clients enter Mark and M.E.

Okay, I admit it. Sometimes I get carried away. I can't help it; waxing is so much fun! Hoping to see you all soon at the Mark and M.E. Salon on Mount Hope Avenue in Rochester, New York.

After a long, cold winter, we are faced with some hairy clients. Sometimes this is a scary time for the staff at Mark and M.E. You may want to book your appointment today before it gets any worse!

Happy first day of Spring everyone! Everyone's idea of spring cleaning is different. As the author of "The Happy Hoo-Ha" I think most of you can guess what I think needs some spring cleaning!

When I wake up in the morning, I often reflect on the previous work day. I think about the highlights, lowlights and frustrations. Even though I poke fun at my job, waxing is serious and I've worked very hard to perfect my craft so I like to scrutinize my performance. The best part of yesterday was when I waxed a beautiful young girl's back. She was Italian and very fair skinned. She had light brown downy hair that covered her entire back. It wasn't that noticeable but it made her self conscious. After I waxed the area, her skin was brighter and very clean looking. She was giddy. So was I. That's what it's all about. I can't put a price on that feeling.

Two friends came to Mark and M.E. for Brazilians. One was on the 2nd floor and the other was on the 3rd. They were both Hispanic. When one screamed "Oh my God," the other would follow suit. When the first one started laughing hysterically, the 2nd one laughed even harder. They mimicked each other perfectly. At one point I yelled, "Is their a parrot at Mark and M.E.?" This went on for ten minutes. The screams and obscenities echoed throughout the salon. At one point, I laughed so hard that I found myself lying on her stomach and snorting in extreme laughter. It was a great day!

After the sluggish start to the week, today was a fun, busy day. I think we should refer to St. Patty's Day this year as a Superb Primping Day at Mark and M.E. (I thought about a different 'P' word at first, but I'm trying to keep things clean on this Fabulous Friday night!) Have fun tonight everyone!!

Looks like the crazy winds are behind us so you don't have to worry about having any of your hair blowing away on you. Now you'll have to get a Brazilian the old-fashioned way - with my hot wax and some old-fashioned popsicle sticks. Happy Thursday everyone!

I watched the movie Hysteria last night. It's about the invention of the vibrator. It wasn't graphic; it was funny. It was set in the 1880's. The contraption was big and ominous looking. When I watch stories about that body part, my thoughts always stray to the issue of the hair. The women of that era must have groomed their nether regions or there would have been a lot of tangling happening.

For those of you who don't know our history, Mark's mom started the salon in 1956. Her husband joined her in the business shortly thereafter. Mark joined his folks in 1980. They operated as Style-O-Rama for almost 40 years. I joined the team in 1987 when I graduated college. When Mark's parents retired, we bought the salon and changed the name to Mark and M.E.
Over 60 years of professional, quality and most importantly, family service. We are so proud to be a part of this community!

When a client asks us to leave the shape of a welcome mat, you have to smile, because after a Brazilian, we like to think that someone special is welcome there.

There are going to be quite a few sexy women from Rochester New York walking the beaches in Mexico this week. I have had so much fun helping these women get ready for their vacation. Another perk of waxing for a living!
Sunday, March 5, 2017
I pulled the first wax strip off a woman's lower stomach. She yelled "Mother of Pearl." Then she told me she never used that expression before, didn't know where it came from and wasn't sure why she said it. The second rip elicited a "Jesus Christ" from her lips. Before she yelled a third time, she prefaced by saying that what came out of her mouth wouldn't be suitable for young children.

I can't make up the crazy things people say after they have been waxed. After the wax is complete, I put a layer of tea tree oil on the area to help get rid of the sticky residue. After I leave the room, the client takes a minute to wipe the excess oil and wax from their skin. Yesterday, I finished a woman and she jumped off the table and started to dress. I reminded her that she needed to wipe off the oil. That's when she said, "Oh my God, I'm like a whore! I was just getting dressed quickly without wiping off first!"

When a woman enters the wax room and she is apologizing profusely for her prolonged absence from Mark and M.E., you never know what you might find. Once she undressed, I admit she had a more retro look. There was some "Oh my God's" and some "Mother f'ers" and even some laughter that sounded a bit like frenzied hysteria. But what made it all worth while was when she got off the table, looked at herself in the mirror and exclaimed "Praise Jesus!"

Mark and M.E. has had some definite difficulties staffing our salon in the past, as do most salons in the Rochester area. Last month, we had two employees quit within one hour from one another. We believe they enjoyed their simultaneous resignations. One gave no explanation, violated her non-compete, and began soliciting our clients via phone, email and social media. The second employee gave us a long explanation how she was moving out of town, which we just discovered was a blatant lie. She also violated her non-compete by moving 2.1 miles from our location. Mark and I are utterly disheartened by the lack of morality of today's workforce. We may demand hard work from our employees, but we never lied to them and the expectations were clear from the start. This is a difficult time for us, and we hope you all teach your children to be better people.
