 In 2012, I published a funny, non-fiction book called The Happy Hoo-Ha. I recently came across a review from last X-Mas that I hadn't seen but LOVED!  When you're a beautician, it is the greatest feeling in the world to make others feel beautiful, whether we give you a new hair style,  facial, pedicure, wax or whatever...  But we think that it's just as important to feel beautiful on the inside. During a yoga class this morning, I was reminded how important it is to not only love yourself but to spread love to others. With how crazy our world is, that simple statement of spreading love to others made me cry. So, for once, today's post isn't a funny one. It's a reminder to spread some kindness and love to others on this beautiful day.

If you're planning to go swimming, did you know that your body is more buoyant when it's bald? (OK, maybe that isn't based on science but it makes sense to me!)

We don't have many appointments left so make your call before you get denied and have difficulty floating.

 When someone yells 'mother of pearl' during a Brazilian Wax, it makes sense. The pearl represents our pleasure point hidden in the shell that has the ability to be a mother. It's not the expression I would think to yell when I'm in pain, but I thoroughly enjoyed this PG version of a swear word.

 Oh goodness, what is M.E. up to now? She bought a barcode and hired a graphic designer for her newest adventure....  Stay tuned for more details. 

On another note, the weather looks like it is going to be nice this weekend, so if you need a wax, please don't wait until Saturday or it may not happen.

 I don't understand Google. There is no profanity, nudity or yuckiness here. It's an advertisement for a facial - plain and simple. Thoughts?

 In preparation for the upcoming holiday, if one of your  Memorial Day things to do is get your hair colored, cut or even ripped out by the root, your lashes lifted or extended, your face or bikini area exfoliated and masqued, your hands or toes primped & polished or even your brows waxed, colored or laminated, we will be here for you regular hours this week. Except....one employee is on maternity leave, another employee is on vacation and M.E. is only working for 2 hours on Saturday. Moral of the story,  make a plan ahead of time so we aren't forced to say no to you!  Thank you!!!

So our biggest selling product at both salons is the FUR line, which is great for ingrown hairs in the  bikini area.  In fact, we just got a huge shipment delivered, because both salons had sold out. Tonight I was thinking about our inventory and it occurred to me that the name is kind of the opposite of what our salons are known for. We remove fur and yet we are selling a ton of a product by that very same name. When I looked up the word FUR in the Webster dictionary (yes, I'm a huge dictionary fan), it listed synonyms such as floss, fluff, fuzz, lint and nap. That had me LOL for quite some time. When you've been in the business as long as we have, everything has the potential to make us laugh!

 

I love to cook. I love to wax. And I get very excited when clients send me cute little memes like this!

 

Yesterday, I opened my Facebook page and saw in big red letters that my account was restricted. It was flagged because I wrote a story about a woman who wanted to check how thorough I was after I gave her a Brazilian Wax and she stood in front of our mirror in the same position as this little girl. There is so much ugly stuff on social media and Facebook has a problem with this?

 I love when the music corresponds to the Brazilian Waxing service. The song "Oh What A Night" came on and the client had been vocalizing the word "oh" several times. As I was finishing, the song was ending and the client said "Tonight I'm going to be saying Oh What A Night!!!"  I love being a part of that.

 When we remove a wax strip from your body, there shouldn't be a loud noise associated with the action. However, when we pull off a strip and it sounds like someone is biting into an apple, then we know you aren't properly hydrated. When the weather is warmer, you need to be more conscientious of how much water you consume before your waxing service. It's okay to taste an apple, just not sound like one.  

 A new client came in this morning and said she heard we were the Gods of Waxing! She really made our day. Now we are all trying to figure out what God we want to be!!

 It's hilarious how the expletives coming out of our client's mouths escalate during the Brazilian Waxing  Service. Ladies start with an "Oh God" to a "Jesus Christ!" to a "Holy Sh*t!!!!" What makes this scenario even funnier is that more women than not apologize profusely after their outbursts.  Do they really think we have never heard a swear word before? Please don't apologize. We are not that sensitive. When you do what we do for a living, you hear it all. 

So this is what's going on. We have one employee going on maternity leave next week and another going on maternity leave in July. We have staff members on vacation this week and others the following two weeks. The sun is finally shining in Rochester New York and I know there are a lot of you that are feeling as hairy as Austin Power's chest hair, so you need to plan your next wax. Waiting until the last minute is not a good idea, unless you like to live dangerously.

In our opinion, Brazilians are better than the dentist but, like the dentist, we like to know that you are keeping your appointment with us. We know the text reminders can be annoying, but you'd be shocked at how many people still don't show up for their appointments. And even though we charge for no-shows and last minute cancellations, people don't seem to care. Today, most of M.E.'s appointments are unconfirmed so we have to wonder if she should play hooky from work since nobody seems invested as she is about the happiness of their hoo-ha. Let us know you're coming. Let us know you can't make it. Just let us know your plan so we can run the salon as efficiently as possible and get everyone in.

 When you get your first Brazilian Wax with us, you will receive an after care gift bag. It not only has after care instructions (like waiting to get busy...) it also has our Helpful Wax Hint page that can be found on our website. The bag includes a sucker in case you feel a little lightheaded after, which isn't common but can happen. We try to make your experience as pleasant as possible. Brazilians don't have to be tortuous. They can be a fun and efficient service and that is the type of atmosphere we try to offer you.  The problematic product: We sell a lot of products for the bikini area, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone since we are known as The Home of The Brazilian Wax. One of the products we carry is a feminine cleanser made with apple  cider vinegar to help balance the PH of the v-j-jay. It's called the Nookie Cookie and strongly resembles an oatmeal cookie. It works really well, not only in the bikini area, but the underarms as well. When we got to work this morning, we realized someone must have mistaken the soap for an  oatmeal cookie and took a big bite out of it! We've been selling the Nookie Cookie for a few years and I think this is the first time anyone has actually tasted it. It does say that it's a feminine cleansing bar on the front of the package.
